Olivia O'Brien displays raw and real emotions with powerful track 'Empty'

At only 17-years-old, singer-songwriter Olivia O’Brien continues to make her mark on the music industry with authentic lyrics that resonate with listeners on a deeper level.

Most notably recognized for her Billboard top 10 hit with gnash “i hate u, i love u,” the Napa native has much more to offer as a soloist. While other artists fear or stray away from discussing what may be considered “heavier” topics, she digs deep to display the truth about life beyond the glitz and the glamour that is often hidden beneath the surface.

O’Brien is not afraid to publicize suppressed emotions, unveiling original writing on “Empty” with “I wonder if I’m good enough/ But maybe I’ve had just too much/ To drink, to smoke, to swallow/ I’m drowning up my sorrows/ There’s rules I’ll never follow/ Pretend there’s no tomorrow/ I wish there was no tomorrow.”

In the visual for the alt-R&B infused song, O’Brien shows what is typically seen from an outsider’s perspective. One may come off as having all the fun in the world, but at the end of the day, it is simply a temporary escape from that hollow feeling lingering inside.

The “Trust Issues” singer hopes her latest single can be something in which others identify to, helping them realize that they are not alone when it comes to fighting their inner demons. “Stop being scared of your emotions. Stop running from deep thoughts. Stop pretending. Be human,” she tweeted upon the release of “Empty.”

Olivia continues to work on her full length debut studio album, which is expected to be released sometime this year via Island Records.
